Rental laws vary from state to state, they can't increase the deposit when the increase your rent in AZ, but in CA they can..though most don't bother. Check with your states housing laws..

Where I live it is allowed. It doesn't matter the age or circumstance that a person has moved in. It might have been possible that if you had talked to him before time to make the new lease, he might have let it go, I don't know your landlord so I can't say. I would have tried it.

I am not sure about the additional deposit, but she is allowed to raise the lease. I just thought she had to let you know before your lease was up so you could have enought time to decide if you wanted to stay or not.

NO, it doesn't matter if you have your grandma living with you. You are trying to do something nice for her. It is not like she is talking up a nother room.

I don't think so. Doesn't sound right to me.... increasing the rent is okay (most states have a 30day notice clause, or something like that), but asking for more for the security deposit doesn't sound right. I would look at the ORIGINAL lease that was signed. It should be spelled out in there.
