A quick note: I’ll be out tomorrow. I’ll either post the #6 song this evening or tomorrow night. But it’s planned, so don’t worry. Worry, instead, about the people who came up with this song! Here’s today’s tune that I find hilarious. #7: Marty Beller Mask - They Might Be Giants TMBG have been known since their inception back in the mid-80s as a duo that explored the humorous side of life (check out their “I Hope That I Get Old Before I Die” from their first album, a twist on The Who’s “My Generation” proclamation “I hope I die before I get old”). The two Johns (Flansburgh on guitar, Linnell on accordion/keyboards) are a blast, looking at the absurd in delightfully entertaining ways. Now, what could be more absurd than the thought of Whitney Houston being “disenchanted” with stardom that “was so fake” and swapping places with TMBG drummer Marty Beller? “Marty gets the mansion and I get his skins” had me doubled over the first time I heard this song. One of my favorite acts from the 80s haven’t slowed down any.
