My Aunt Myrtha was an army nurse in World War Two. Unfortunately, she died somewhat young, in here thirties (from cancer, not from the war), so I don't remember her, but she had two daughters, my cousins Carleen and Barbara, whom I am close to.
We have a Facebook group for my family, and someone posted an old picture of my aunt in her wartime uniform. It was black and white (a sepia tone, rather), but I wanted to do the portrait in color so I could give it to my cousins at the family reunion on Labor Day weekend. I did some research to make sure the color of the uniform and the lipstick were right. I had to guess at her hair and skin tone, but I based it on my cousins.
I drew this portrait on tan-colored paper, using colored pencils. It's not very big, just 8 x 10 inches, but that enabled me to get it done pretty quickly. My cousins were very happy with it!
