Legacy of the Depths: A Tribute to My Dad

September 27, 2023 8:30am CST
In the depths of sorrow, I find solace in verse, To honor your dad, a man so diverse. In 2015, a year that brought pain, Pancreas cancer took him, leaving a stain. But let us remember the life he led, A man of talents, with a heart widespread. He loved the waters, where tranquility thrived, Fishing was his passion, where his soul would dive. With every cast, he found a sense of peace, In the gentle ripples, his worries would cease. A master of patience, he'd wait for the catch, His eyes filled with joy, as the fish would latch. But fishing was just one of his many skills, A man of substance, with a spirit that thrills. He built boats with precision, his hands so deft, Crafting vessels that sailed with grace and heft. And on the race track, his spirit would soar, A need for speed, an adrenaline roar. With engines roaring, he'd push to the brink, The thrill of the chase, a passion hard to unlink. From the waters to the tracks, his talents shone, A man of many passions, now forever gone. But his legacy lives on, in memories we keep, A father, a friend, whose love ran deep. Though he's no longer here, his spirit remains, In the gentle breeze and the racing lanes. And as we cast our lines or hear engines roar, We'll feel his presence, forevermore. So let us remember the man he was, With every cast and every engine's buzz. A father, a hero, who touched many hearts, Whose memory in our souls forever imparts.

So sorry for your loss. I lost my dad in January 2016 to pneumonia and emphysema, and my mother 4 years and 364 days later to pancreatic cancer. My dad's favorite sport was baseball.
