Good afternoon.. You may recall that my power wheelchair was damaged by American Airlines on a flight this summer. The cost of the repairs, including parts and labor was $998. American has paid for the parts and the repairs. The parts will be installed soon. I was wise to have mom take "before" and "after" pictures of the chair. I am so thankful that I took my backup chair on the trip and not my very good chair. I still believe that airline employees and contractors need mandatory professional development training on the appropriate handling and operations of the medical equipment that is so essential in the lives and well being of passengers with disabilities. Air travel will not become easier and more comfortable for people with disabilities until and unless that becomes a best practice and an industry standard.

That's why I won't fly. They treat wheelchairs, both manual and power are treated like luge and can get damaged, lost or stolen. It's a risk I'm glad I don't have to take.

Hi, will the repair cost be covered by insurance?

Was it United? Didn't they trash some guy's guitar so he wrote a song about it?

That is definitely quite a lot. I'm glad that they're paying for it and that your mom took before and after pictures.

This is atrocious. And even if they have training MandaLee, there are those that don't give a flying leap about anyone but themselves and on top of that are cruel. Sorry this happened to you.
