The leaves are hinting that they want to change, but nothing widespread yet. Lots of color showing on the various fall foliage webcams I watch every year, though. It’s stunning. Speaking of “stunning,” here’s another song that makes teachers’ heads spin because of the word ain’t in the title. He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother - The Hollies And you’re thinking, hey, didn’t you just use that in the Clear Channel Memo countdown? Why, yes, I did! Thanks for noticing! And, when I used it then, I told the story of the co-writer of this song, Bob Russell (no relation to “Saturday Morning Confusion” singer and ex-husband of Vicky Lawrence Bobby Russell), writing this feel-good, optimistic tune even as he was dying of leukemia. I also mentioned then, but I’ll mention it again (and again and again): Elton John was a session musician on this song, playing piano and singing backup. Enjoy one of the late 60s classics one more time. He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother Written by Bob Russell and Bobby Scott Recorded by The Hollies From He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother, 1969 His welfare is my concern:

Just watched a really good Doc on the Hollies. A departure from their melodic innocent pop sound during the Graham Nash era. This serious soulful ballad was a big hit in 1969 and was #1 with a re-release in 1988, an achievement Nash never achieved with the super group CSN. That Elton guy sure made the rounds before becoming a Hercules in the music business himself.

Times were changing in the late 60s so it was inevitable that the messages in the songs would as well. I’ll look for the Hollies documentary!

I don´t care much about grammar when songs are good. But you have a nose for the best of them My favorite song with "ain´t" is "Ain´t no mountain high enough". It is one on my "shower" songs when I could still sing-yell

That was on the list, but it didn’t make the final cut. Wish the month had 32 days!

He Ain't Heavy, Father, he's my brother.
"He ain't heavy, Father. He's my brother" is the official motto of Boys' Town, now Boys' and Girls' Town. It is engraved on the statue in front of their headquarters.

Indeed! What a great charity. Those were the days, when churches did the “charity work” instead of government bureaucrats. Charities today are in disaster areas before the government can organize a meeting to decide how long it’s going to take to have a press conference and announce that a committee is being formed to investigate the disaster.

I think it’s that way because we shouldn’t have to be reminded of that.

Ain't I silly, I didn't even think about this song being on your list when you wrote about doing this countdown. I do think about which ones will make you various posts. This song is probably one of my favorites of all time from the 60s.

A third and a fourth, if I can find a countdown for it. The title’s certainly long enough.
