My view is that Jim Jordan would be the best person as speaker. He would satisfy the demands of the Freedom Caucus, who want to put America first and deal with the border crisis, the Ukraine money demands, and our suffering economy due to this administration's overspending.
Unfortunately, the Republicans are divided among themselves over some of these issues like Ukraine for example, and so a consensus cannot be reached. In addition, there are too many entrenched Republicans who worry more about lobbyists needs, re-election campaign contributions, and special interest groups than trying to get things done to help American citizens. Therefore, you have a stalemate among their party.
In contrast, the Democrats always vote as one. They are interested in maintaining power by any means and use deception to convince the American people they are working to better their lives. By voting together, they can ensure Republicans will be unable to pass any bills that might benefit Americans, for their goal is to keep control of citizens by making them more dependent on government handouts.
I hope this helps!

@dgobucks226 Your wording is interesting. You present the democrats in the "always" position. You know for a fact that Democrats "make 'them' more dependent on government handouts." Interesting. How you know this is also interesting. Are ALL homeless people picked on Republicans? Are all poor people all Republicans? Are ALL disabled people Republicans? My husband was an independant and now is a Democrat. He happens to be blind. He also has three degrees. For a long time we lived below the poverty level due to discrimination. We did not become dependent on government handouts though through necessity we did have SSI. Anyway, I am not a fan of them and I am not a fan of all.

I am a strong conservative republican, but do not toe the party line, so I am very capable of admitting it's a clown show right now in the GOP. I would have preferred Scalise, but Jordan is a good second pick and he's the nominee. He has my full support and can't find a single reason not to support him for speaker.

I like Scalise, but he has been in Washington a long time, so my worry is he may be beholden to those special interest groups as McCarthy.
Jordan has said his focus is going to be on border security, fighting inflation, and reducing spending. In addition, he is strong on the 2nd amendment, crime and supporting the military. All issues I can get behind.

@dgobucks226 I agree in many ways. But tell me any politician on either side who is not beholden to special interests? I don't think it's even possible. lol.
Either way, the clown show continues on with Jordan momentarily stepping down from the bid. McHenry may just wind up being speaker, which I suppose I am fine with even though I'd still more strongly support Scalise or Jordan. I am trying to think of someone else right now I'd like more for the spot, but no names really stand out for me at the moment.
I really think we are long overdue for a change of faces in Congress across the board though. We're (and when I say we I mean Congress in general) just not getting anything done.

@porwest I agree with you that a change is necessary. On both on age and term limits.

Me either, it's getting harder to trust anyone in government.

You have asked a deeply disturbing question that goes way beyond poitics. Due to the issues going on in the Republican party I have no clue how to answer your question. I hope that sooner than later the Republicans can stop fighting among themselves and come up with some ideas that put America first.

I’d pick anyone with a brain, which eliminates half the Congress.
A good case of “think before you act.” By the time they get this resolved that 45-day emergency spending bill will have expired, just in time to lay the government off for the holidays.

I think Scalise would have made a decent Speaker, which is why the Trump wing of the GOP didn't want him. Jim Jordan is a disaster waiting to happen if he gets in. In all his years in Congress, he cannot point to one accomplishment or achievement and his only goal in life right now is to make Trump happy.

I don't know anything about your situation in the US, but it sounds messy.
