The image is from "Ball of Fire" and he is to the left of the woman. What a dear he was. Because of his demeanor, he was nicknamed "Cuddles" some say by Jack Warner, others say it was Doris Day. He was a great character actor with a grand smile. Born in Budapest, Austria-Hungary in 1883. In 1940 he left Hungary and came to Hollywood. Many of his relatives were later murdered in Nazi concentration camps. This included all three of his sisters, a niece, and his wife's brother and sister. Favorite movies he appears in are Ball of Fire (1941), Casablanca (1942), and Christmas in Connecticut (1945). In the latter he had the line: "It is so, so romantic, it gives me pimples all over the goose!" He played waiters, chefs, shop owners, matrede, and pianist, and acted alongside Doris Day, Errol Flynn, Gary Cooper, and Barbara Stanwyck. He was in over 40 films. He was active in films from 1916 to 1954. Ten days after his 72nd birthday in 1955 he died of a heart attack. The photo is from Listal.com

I recognized him as soon as I have seen his face, I remember him in Casablanca, a movie that I re-watched many times.

He was rather serious in that one. I liked him more in ones where his "Cuddles" nickname showed through.

He was a very good actor. I remember seeing him in the two you mentioned. I didn't see or know of Ball of Fire.
