This morning when I got up and looked out of the widow, there was a fox outside. And rather surprisingly, the fox wasn’t harassing the chickens but appeared to be trying to reach the remaining apples on the trees! I’ve never really thought of foxes eating fruit, although of course the story of ‘The Fox and the Grapes’ is one of Aesop’s fables. And dogs often enjoy fruit too, so I should have thought of it. We have masses of grapes too at the moment (the other side of the house) so maybe I should leave a bunch or two out there for hungry mammals. This fox is cute, they are cute animals, but I know they are dangerous for chickens. I also never thought that foxes may like fruits, but then The Fox and the Grapes came to my mind (in Latin, as I studied it in school!).

what a treat! can ya tell i miss my fox family? anyhow, they're quite fond 'f fruits 'n veggies. the parents used to steal apples from neighborin' folks trash 'n bury 'em out back fer the kits to find. makes 'em real happy when blueberries 're ready. sadly, i've no fruit this year. 80+mph winds did much damage to my apple trees. they'd jest started flowerin' when the hail storms came. 'las, not apples fer fox, horses nor myself. the birds 'n fox 're 'lso 'nhappy 'bout the grape vines who suffered the same fate.

Oh no! That's terrible. This random unpredictable weather is causing so many problems.

We are near an area of woodland, I wouldn't call it a forest.

There are plenty out there on the vine, the blackbirds and wasps are enjoying them but until now I didn't think of the mammals.

When we had our Pup he liked all sorts of soft fruit, starting with gooseberries in the spring and ending with grapes in the autumn. That was when we realised that grapes are deadly poison to some dogs - luckily it turned out he wasn't one of them!

That's a decent photo, especially considering you're taking it through a window. And yes, foxes will eat fruit and seem to love eating apples.

Thanks. It was only just light, if you zoom in on the photo you can see how bad it really is. Must get the 'proper' camera into use.

I never thought about them eating fruit either. I'm sure they would like the fruit. Good picture of the fox.

We leave apples out for the deer all the time. You got to see a fox. How cool! I've only seen a fox once out here. Have a good day.

I know there are foxes around, but we don't see them often. This one was a very good-looking specimen.
