As part of my US tour the last leg was to visit the Alcatraz Island but when I reached San Francisco a message was awaiting me at my hotel from my friend who said she would pick me up. This plan was already there but she came a day earlier and I had to skip that last item.
My friend said she would take me to the Island as she herself had not visited there. It was a memorable outing. We had to take a boat to get there and the attraction was to visit the prison cell of the famous ganster Alcapone His cell was well maintained. Strange that one paid to visit the Cell.
For info on Alcapone you can visit the following link

I believe one cannot swim in that strip as it is below 8 degrees and that is why Alcapone could not escape from ther.e
If you get an opportunity do take it

@allknowing Wasn’t there one person that escaped in the history of Alcatraz? It seems like I read that somewhere.

I visited as a child when I lived in California, but the pictures I have are clearer than my memories. My best friend actually visited Alcatraz on her vacation two weeks ago. She took more pictures of their landscaping than anything else!

Taking pictures of that prison cell is nothing much to write home about (lol) What was around there was worthy of a visit.

So they charged you extra money to visit his cell?

@RebeccasFarm And to think that guy is honoured by keeping his cell as an exhibition piece and yes I did go to see it - silly me. I saw his coffee mug, plates, et al (lol)

You must and it is easy for you as you are already in the US. I notice many in the US have not travelled much
