When is the last time you checked your credit score?

Up until this morning, I hadn’t checked my credit score for 18 years. I thought, why do I need to know? In case I buy a house someday?
So, for some reason, this morning I decided to check it. It was really good! I don’t know why, but I didn’t expect it to be.
When was the last time you checked your credit score? Or, has anyone never checked theirs at all? In case you are curious, Credit Karma will tell you your credit score for free.

I have never done it before. And it is not a "thing" here in our country to check our credit score

@LadyDuck It sounds a lot better.
So, when someone needs a loan for a house in Switzerland, how do the banks decide who to give a loan to? Do they just check to see if a person pays their bills? That’s the best way to get a good score here; just pay bills on time.

I get notifications about mine. Whenever it goes up or down I check it. Mine is excellent. I try not to use any cards unless I really need to

@AmbiePam Yes, peace of mind, but it could always change.

I haven't really checked it recently. Last year, our bank checked mine for my car loan. It was good, and now that the loan is paid for, I don't think I need to check it again. But that could change, as we're in the market to buy a new house. We'll see!

I got docked several years ago, I know, from closing a credit card account when I got a new credit card. They warned me it would hurt my credit score, but I didn’t want to worry someone would commit fraud and get ahold of it. I can’t worry about it if it isn’t an open account.

I checked all three credit bureaus this year. We've always had a high score. Have a good week.

@AmbiePam The only time credit really "matters" to me, IF it matters, is when it is good credit, which is defined as credit that is used to obtain an asset as opposed to a liability. It's too much to get into details here about what I mean by that. But there IS a big difference between credit that is used to buy an asset and credit that is used to buy a liability.
A house, for example, would be considered good credit. A car loan is TYPICALLY bad credit. However, when it comes to car loans it can be both—again, lots of details about that that are difficult to explain. If the cost of the loan is cheaper than what you can earn on the cash...this is a good use of credit. If the cost of the loan is higher than what you can earn on the cash, cash being used to buy the car is the better alternative.
Credit cards are bad debt. So are college debts MOST of the time. Business loans are good debts.
I think the key takeaway is understanding the COST of the debt, what it is being used for, and whether it is positive leverage or is being used to replace money we don't actually have.

This morning. Experian.com will give you a free FICO 8 score based on their report, which is a bit different than the VantageScore that Credit Karma uses. The scores Credit Karma gives me are always lower than my actual FICO scores from the credit bureaus.

Five years ago when we had to find a new place to rent. I don't have a credit score. I don't use credit cards and don't buy anything on credit. Of course, we ended up in this house because I don't have a good credit score. The landlord here called my old landlord, checked to make sure I'd always paid my rent and told me they'd love for me to rent from them even without a credit score.

Actually I check mine every month. My bank offers an updated credit score each month so it's easily accessible when I log onto the bank. Otherwise I never really ever checked my credit score until recently.
Good for you have a really good credit score
