ya it is a great form of exercise. each and every part of our muscles are sxercised by practicing martial arts. no other sport or art barring gymnastic can boast of this. elder people cant learn gymnastic but martial arts could be learned at any age.

I'm a hybrid, lol. I started studying Isshinryu Karate in 1964, but we moved around a lot because of my Dad's job and moved to a place where I couldn't find an isshinryu instructor in 1966, so I started taking Tang Soo Do until 1972. At that time, I was in the military and stationed in Korea for four years and while I was there, I went to Praying Mantis Kung Fu class every morning, Hapkido class at lunch and Tae Kwon Do practice at night. When I came back to the states, I taught some, but then I got interested in Wing Chun Kung Fu and studied that for four years. Since 1982, I've focused mainly on the soft styles of Tai Chi Chuan and Pakua.

I study an eclectic style taking forms and techniques from many wushu(chinese martial arts) styles but is centered around Southern Shaolin kungfu. My Sifu also teaches some Tai-Chi, as he believes it completes the balance of the Yin and Yang in the martial artists..Yang, or hard style being the fighting techniques and movements and the Yin being the soft, waterlike movements of Tai-Chi. And as your desire to learn some Tai-Chi, I would definetly recommend it, it would be a perfect balance to your Shotokn Karate and will help in balancing you out as not just a martial artists but a person. If you are looking for a specific style of Tai Chi in your area I would recommend you looking into a Yang style Tai Chi class..it has more applicable movements and if you are like me and like the excercise, it would be much more challenging and fun. Hope this helps.

I've been practising Shotokan karate since i was 5 yrs. of age. I just love the martial art. My master is the only 7th dan black belt in India... He teaches us various techniques. This is the only form of martial art i currently learn. However, i would also like to learn Kung Fu(Jackie Chan's moves r amazing)
