This Calicut Black Halwa is made from rip bananas. Calicut is a place that has huge banana plantations . They also make banana chips.
Whenever I had bananas from my garden I did try to make halwa but it never had the same taste as the one that is available in Calicut
This halwa is rich in calories as plenty of ghee is used while making it. It is fine therefore to eat it once in a way.

From your description Halwa sounds much like a candy we call fudge. It would be a good way to use ripe bananas.

I have tried making fudge but fudge is somewhat dry. Banana halwa because of the ghee it is moist and shining

I lived in Calicut when young.
There is a sweetmeat street that sells such delicacies.
Now I have to be wary of them. One of my friends brought me a large quantity but the health-conscious generation now does not relish them. I had no choice but to discard most of it.
