A Day in My Life

Forty-nine years ago was an interesting day. I was bulging with baby. My brother-in-law and sister-in-law were down from Monterey, California to pick up my older son to give me time to get used to my new little one.
My husband and they planned a surprise baby shower that I knew about from the moment they made the plans. It's hard not to when my husband was talking loudly on the phone.
Anyway, after the baby shower, I returned to the apartment up to my eyebrows with baby gifts. I couldn't see the ground. Suddenly I slipped and fell on a ripe olive. There were olive trees everywhere in the complex. I did the splits for the first time in my life. Not something you should do when you're bulging with baby.
I didn't realize it then, but I went into labor right away. However, we planned to take my inlaws to the Planetarium in San Diego. Imagine me big as a house getting into the backseat of a Pinto. Yeah. Fun. Not. I no sooner walked into the apartment and my water broke.
My daughter was born just before noon Pacific time the next day. Tomorrow, she will be 49 years old.

I'm sure your daughter loves hearing the story... 
I was excited to be able to help my first wife when it came time to deliver Pretty... The mid-wife handed me a bloody little bundle before she was detached from her mom... Pretty was beautiful but unhappy... She wasn't crying but she looked angry and kept rubbing her eyes and glaring at me like I'd done something wrong.

that does sound like a memorable day. I would have to think on that one a bit. Flying to London for the first time was highly interesting and exciting. Hearing my baby's heartbeat for the first time was a big thrill.

That was an interesting way to go into labor.
With my first son I called the doctors office and told them I was in labor. He didn't believe I was but had me come in to check me. I changed into a gown and was just getting on the table as he walked in. My water went everywhere about that time. I looked at him and asked. Am I in labor now?
