It's Tuesday, and you know what that means. I have to put $7 into my envelope, and I just did. It's Tuesday the 7th. I started my challenge back in the first week of October and now have $92 in my envelope.
It's a game where you put into your envelope on each Tuesday of the month, whatever the day on the calendar is. Next week Tuesday I will put in $14 on the 14th.
The key is to make saving fun, especially if one happens to be one who finds it impossible or a chore to do it. And then once you start saving, it not only is fun, but it is also motivating, develops a habit, and before you know it one is looking for MORE ways to save. It becomes a thing and suddenly it's not the chore it once was.
That's part of the idea here.
It also helps people to THINK more about where they can FIND savings. Such as in the Tuesday challenge, maybe one is getting closer to their Tuesday and they're short $3 to contribute. They ask, "What can I not spend $3 on to put into my envelope this week?"
Suddenly NOW on top of everything else they are looking at WHAT they are actually spending on, and better than that, what they are WASTING money on.
The game is only the beginning.
How much is in your envelope?

Zero is in my envelope.
I do not own any envelopes.
I do have a safe full of cash however.

Now that is a great idea! I don't have much to save, being on social security, but I put my survey earnings in my savings and any other extra funds that I earn. Occasionally I'll buy some silver. But that is a wonderful idea--everyone should have some emergency funds available in their residence. I have a little and store it in a fireproof bag hidden away.

Games like this are not just to save some extra cash of course, but just to get people at least thinking about it. The more one thinks about it, the more aware they are of their money, and the more they think about it even when they are out trying to spend some of it.

I'm not telling what's in my envelope! It's the "for dinner" envelope. Have a good rest of your day.
