So much to learn about Native Americans. I didn't know there were 574 federally recognized tribes in existence. That's 229 in Alaska and the others are in 35 other states. About 14.6 percent of the American Indian population is Navajo and then the Cherokee is 10%. The Navajo Nation is the largest tribe with 170,000 who are still speaking the language. There are 175 remaining indigenous languages. Did you know that hockey was originally started by Native Americans? It all started with the Saux, Foxes, and Assiniboine tribes playing a game called 'shinny'. Settlers became interested and further adapted it into what is now the sport of hockey. Picture is mine.

Native Americans are always an interesting subject. The trail of tears is the worst that could be done to human beings. It’s unforgivable. My niece is married to a full blooded Navaho Indian. His grandfather was one of the code talkers in the Second World War.

You are so right. I wish there was some way to let them know how sorry we are for that happening. Like the Black Americans did.

@celticeagle I don’t see anyone that looks to be Indian here other than my nieces husband. They have two children. the girl looks like a full blooded Indian and the boy has no resemblance to Indians. I said in a comment his grandfather was an Indian code talker but I think it was his great grandfather. I’m not sure which it was.

You might not know it looking at me now, but I looked 100% Native American at birth and am a Cherokee descendant.

I am also Cherokee and when I was about four there is a picture of me where I looked very much like a little Native American child.
