Rabbi Gregor Artevski, was making the point, to his students, that both study of scripture, and prayer to God, are needed in a spiritual life. He pointed out to the meditators, amongst his students, that meditating does not require speech, but prayer does. We need to be good at articulating our words, and so we are actively alive in our doing of this, instead of being passively alive, in our meditating. Both practices do have their merit, but do not neglect one for the sake of the other. Our soul has certain facilities built into it, like desire, will, understanding, goodness. When we live from love within us, our desires, our will, our understanding, stays connected to our goodness, and so we are serving God by our lives. Studying scripture gives us insight into the thinking of God. God's mind opens up for us, in such a way, that we can then also learn to think more like God thinks, in our own lives too. Thusly, we can live our life in a better way, by our praying to God, and having a trustful faith in him too. We gain knowledge, and wisdom, from our active study of God's word, which helps to bring more of God into our own words too. Prayer and scripture study strengthens our relationship to God. They bring peace into our life by connecting us, and reconciling us to God, through such active interactions with him. I say a morning prayer and then before bed the Lord's Prayer. I have a book in Latvian of sermons collected from Latvian pastors and read a passage each morning,

That is good. Your day starts and ends with prayer. The largest Religion in Latvia, is Lutheran, I think.

@RasmaSandra I do not know much about Orthodox Churches, but I believe that they reject the idea of the leader being a pope, and of the Pope being infallible.

@innertalks Jews like reading in their whole lives, and the knowledge could give them power.

I wouldn't know for sure, but it is a Jew reading it. This is the Hebrew Alphabet shown here:

We tend to think of God in trying times but forget God when the going is good. I count the blessings and even during bad times, I look for the silver lining. We should stay connected to God at all times and that helps us not to stray from the righteous path. Scriptures are time-tested and reading them brings us peace and enlightenment.

Yes, I look to scriptures to give me greater understanding of God, and of myself, too. Without God, we live a shallow life, and our path is seldom righteous, but more riotous, then instead.

@Shiva49 Yes, even school teachers can lead us astray, and away from our real path, for our life, too. I was pushed away from a subject that I wanted to do, to do one I had no interest in, to make up the numbers in a class, for a new teacher, of that subject. The principal of the school pushed me to do that. And, I have regretted following his advice ever since then.

@innertalks Sadly those who matter, our political leaders, lead us astray and we pay the price while they live on to fight many more selfish battles.

Prayer, in itself, is a positive thing to do, and we feel connected to something bigger than us by praying. I have my doubts at times too, but then a dream, or a prayer, seems to relink me to something otherworldly for a moment, and this satisfies my doubts then, for while too.
