November 13 (a significant date for me)

United States

Happy Monday Everyone! a sunny but chilly day here for the start of a new week. Today is November 13th and 58 years ago I got married. I was only 18 years old but a month shy of my 19th birthday. Who gets married at 18? Crazy me But my marriage only lasted for 15 years but I was blessed with 4 children. My children are my greatest blessings so I wouldn't change a thing. The ironic part of it all is that my divorce was final on guess what date.... November 13th!! What's the odds of getting married and divorced on the same date? Pretty rare I would think.

That is strange for the marriage and divorce dates to be the same. You're not the only child bride, I married at 18 also. I know you're so blessed to have your kids.

I think it was more common back then to marry so young. I am very blessed to have my kids so I certainly don't regret those horrible years of marriage.

That date will never be forgotten for sure. Just happy you have your children and you all stay in touch and enjoy each other's company. That is what life is suppose to be about.

We're a big happy family and certainly worth the sacrifices that came along with being single mom.

That is significant for sure. My mom was 18 and my dad 19 when they married. Somehow they have managed to make it without killing each other..but probably barely. They don't have the greatest deal going on, but on some level they are devoted to each other.

@Marilynda1225 Yeah, my dad is the one of the nicest people you will ever meet. My mother can be nice, but in general she is a piece of work. Not sure who else could have put up with her really...

Wow your mom and dad were very young when they got married. I give them credit for lasting this long without killing each other

@snowy22315 kinda sounds like my mom and dad. My dad was easy going and my mom a stickler for almost everything. Sadly my dad passed away in 1981 and I had to adjust to my moms personality and quirks especially when she couldn't live alone anymore and had to move in with me.

Well happy divorce celebration day I guess. But you at least got 4 beautiful children put of it. Very peculiarly timing for real!

That does seem like it would be reasonably unique. I think many of us got married too young.

It was way more common back then. More than half my graduating class from high school were engaged.

@JudyEv I'm sure they would be these days. Living together first has become more common

That's really sad getting divorced on the same day as you got married. You were too young and when you got divorced you were young too. Glad your children love you.

I know we used to marry young, and to me 19 is not astonishingly young. Odd coincidence on the dates. You can choose the day you marry, but the court basically chooses the final day of a divorce.

I thought it was pretty ironic that the court picked the same date as my wedding. Wonder if the judge was a jokester?

I was married at 19 and we only lasted 8 years. Married again at 36 I believe and that wasn’t any better idea then the first time around . That is ironic your marriage date and divorce date wound up exactly the same.

Oh wow - the same date! You have a wonderful life with your 4 children and grandchildren too - many blessings you have! My daughter is 18 - I cannot imagine her getting married at this time - nope nope nope! But I know back then it was a different time.

Being 18 back then certainly was a different time. Getting married now at 18 would be crazy. I look at my grandkids who are all college age and older (except for 2) and think to myself that none of them would be ready for marriage.

That is rare. Happy day to you. Saturday would have been my 51st wedding anniversary, but we managed 21 years. I was 19. We were two crazy kids getting married so young. I wouldn't trade my kids either. I have three.

Wow guess we were both crazy to get married so young but you lasted longer than I did. I don't look back at the bad years and just thank God that I have my kids and grandkids.

I'm glad you have your four children to be thankful for. I got married at 22 and thought I was mature. I really wasn't. Fortunately our marriage has lasted for 53 years and counting. Hope you have a great day.

By the time I was 22 I had 2 kids I thought I was mature too but I grew up pretty quickly once I had kids to care for. I"m glad that you're able to celebrate 53 years of marriage and wish you many more years.

What a nice blessing to have those kids. I was just 19 when I got married for the 1st time. Those dates are rather odd. Sorry, the marriage didn't last but you had a good run.
