I fed the class today

Well it felt like that anyway. I often have snacks while I'm working--grapes, watermelon, popcorn, Combos, a protein bar, yogurt, etc. Sometimes students will ask if they can have some and I typically say yes. Teenagers are not good about having breakfast in the morning and you never know if they even have options to eat at home. So I tend to share. After the 2nd period students all pretty much failed their test one boy asked if I had anything to eat. I said yes. He asked what I had and I said "cheese sticks, Combos, protein bars, popcorn, fruit snacks. . ." He asked where the cheese sticks were and I pointed to the fridge. He went over, opened it up, and said there aren't any. I said "yeah there are". His friend pointed to them and said "you're stupid". The student said "oh I thought you said cheesesteaks". I was like "why would I have cheesesteaks?" While they had it open they saw a few bottles of citrus Vitamin Water. An Instacart shopper subbed that flavor for the one I asked for and I didn't like it. I don't even know why I brought them into work. Someone asked if they could have one. I said yes and the next thing I know 3 students are drinking the 3 bottles I had. Fine with me. Next up someone chimed in with "can I have a protein bar?" I was like "fine do you want strawberry yogurt or chocolate mint?" BAM several more want in. There went $15 in protein bars. They were all so happy at the end of class. Sure they had just failed a test but they also saw that I'm not mean and evil. I'll consider that a win.

You're a great and kind teacher. Never had one like you but then none of the teachers in my grade school had fridges,

oh it is a science room. I can justify a fridge *and* a microwave. One of these days I'll set up a Keurig in there too!

I'm glad you had food and drink to share. It's only money, right? Maybe you made a couple of friends. Have a great day.

You are far from evil. And you got rid of that water.

I have friends that teach, they always have a stash of protein bars and such to give their students, too. Like you said, it seems many students just either don't eat, or don't have enough to eat. I know it can be very costly, that is just so nice of you to share with them.

A teacher that will feed you is a winner all the way around.
