The Odyssey Within

Good morning everyone,
always hoping to do something appreciated, I share another poem from my first book of poems. Title: The Odyssey Within
I welcome your thoughts on this.
The Odyssey Within
An odyssey unfolds within my soul,
A journey of introspection, my inner goal,
Through uncharted territories of thought,
I explore the truths that can't be bought.
With each step, I uncover layers of me,
In this odyssey of self-discovery,
Past and present merge into one,
In this journey, my inner world is spun.
The chapters of my life, both bright and gray,
Are pages I explore along the way,
An odyssey within, an intimate quest,
To understand myself, I do my best.

That really is beautiful and I like the rhythm of it. The odyssey you are writing about is a life-long undertaking and we still won't know all the answers since we are forever changing!

Thank you for your kind words! Indeed, the odyssey of self-discovery is an ongoing and ever-evolving journey. The beauty lies in the continuous exploration and understanding of oneself throughout the twists and turns of life. If you have any thoughts or reflections on your own odyssey, feel free to share!

Who are you trying to understand, though, and who is the one trying to understand you?
To understand yourself, is an oxymoron, as your real self understands already, without this mysterious "you" trying to understand too.
Perhaps, sometimes, it is better just to be ourselves, and forget about the understanding, altogether, and then the understanding comes through us, just whenever we need it to do so.
We can waste a lot of living trying to understand truths, before the truths are ready to be understood by us.
Perhaps, our soul knows it all already anyway, and so it is not a matter of spinning an inner world, but more accepting the one already there, and getting rid of our own thoughts which more entangle us up than free us up.
I prefer poetry to have at least 2, or 3 verses.
Your poem gives the reader much food for thought, well done.
Perhaps, every journey made takes us away from ourselves, rather than into ourselves.
We should be more just spectators on our soul's journey than try to create any journeys for ourselves.
These are my thoughts as stimulated by your poem.

I like it. It's a very good poem. I used to write poems but not any more.

@RRossi Well, I stopped writing poetry really because I wanted to concentrate on my art. I went on an art course in the summer and since it finished I've been doing some more, painting along at home with the winter course. They gave us the prospectus for the winter course while we were at the course in the summer so I knew what they were doing and I've been doing something similar at home. This week it's ruby slippers (red shoes!) I'm hoping to go back in the summer next year with my friend Yasmin.
