James Garcia who is six years old received the Young Hero Award on Sunday from the Orange County Fire Rescue for his actions of calling 911 when his grandmother Rosa was babysitting him in her home when she collapsed due to a medical emergency. James was able to contact 911 and stay on the telephone line speaking to the operator until Orange County Fire Department firefighter Nicolas Wilson greeted James when he arrived to take care of his grandmother who was unconscious in her bedroom. That is true that children today have more knowledge in this subject now than in previous generations.

It is strange to me that firefighters were sent to answer that call. I think an ambulance might have been more appropriate, but it does seem that the firefighters handled the situation well, showing their multiskilling of talents.
