Retailers and Business Can Afford to Close for the Holidays

As we near the next upcoming big holiday season which includes Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day, we once again enter into the discussion of whether or not retail operations or other establishments like fast food companies, should simply close and allow workers to enjoy the holidays with their families?
I have always been a proponent of them closing, even though there have been times when something being open on a holiday is rather convenient.
Granted, my title is little bit misleading, perhaps. It is an assumption. I don't have any of these businesses' books in front of me to verify that. But I always consider a business that builds time off into their entire business plan.
Chick-Fil-A which is always closed on Sundays.
Despite being closed indefinitely one day each week every year, Chick-Fil-A has enjoyed massive profitability and has not seen its bottom line impacted negatively as a result.
I think most businesses have the ability to take a lesson from a very successful business like Chick-Fil-A and come up with a business plan that allows them to still be profitable even if they close their doors on significant holidays throughout the year when employees spend more time with family.
What are your thoughts?

I think that now it is easier to do that if you can also offer to sell online and send part of what you are selling later. In my country it is mandatory to close a couple of dayd in the year but many also close on other holiday occations.

@porwest In my country shops have to pay their employees more for their hour of work during holidays or weekends.

@marguicha Not a requirement here, but I do think it should be a given.

I can understand businesses that want to close, so their workers can spend time with their families or with friends. Several of my single friends have friend gatherings and I had them when attending college.

@Fishmomma Whenever an employee of any business sees a closed one, it should serve as a reminder that doing what's best for the company is sometimes more beneficial than expecting the business to do what's best for the employee.

@porwest - I have to say that I found convenient to find all stores open 7 days a week when I visited your country. Most of your grocery stores are open from 7 in the morning until 7 p.m. and some do not even close during the night. Only at the gas stations you can find a small convenience shop open on Sundays here.

I think the poor employees should get a day off. Have a great day and a great Thanksgiving.

People here work long hours. They do shop over the weekend, on Sat and Sunday. Most retailers open on Sunday. But they close on the first three days of Chinese New Year. It is a statutory requirement that workers get a day off during a week. Therefore, even the retailer opens on Sunday, each work gets a day off on one of the weekdays.
