Do you cook soup often?

We love soup. It's a healthy meal. We can't afford to buy food and eat it in a restaurant. It is too expensive and it's much cheaper to make it at home. But it takes a lot of time. My mom cooks soup in four hours. I wouldn't have the patience to cook for such a long time. It's not difficult to cook soup, but it takes a while. If you cook soup how much time does it last until you finish cooking it?

When I make soup, I use the crock pot and let it cook for several hours.

We make soup in our slow cooker and we make it at least 2-3 times a month. We have some in the fridge now, veggie beef soup.

@dya80dya Depending on the type of soup. Veggie beef/chicken takes a little longer 4-6 hours in the slow cooker because of the potatoes and carrots, to get them done. Other soups like tomato, chicken noodle, french onion doesn't normally take as long. With the french onion I caramelize the onions before I put them in the slow cooker.

@dya80dya I don't prefer it, but it's easier. It has a lot of sodium in it.

Not really no. I mean I don't make home made soup often anymore. I can't get the things I need to make it, mainly being beef shanks. Can't get them anymore. So canned soups is what we often have that are full of sodium..very bad for us.

My father bought a canned soup. It smelled awful, but he didn't have any problems because of it. We eat what we can. It's sad when food is so expensive. That canned soup he bought was a special soup and he enjoys it a lot.

Soups are an excellent way to give a little boost to the budget and make things go a long way, and the colder months are what I call, "Soup and casserole season." I tend to make a soup a week and it tends to go very far. Besides, they also happen to taste very good. And there are so many options to make so many different ones. I do still make soups in the warmer months. Just not as often. But when I cook them, I do let them simmer for some time before serving them. Just helps to better marinate all the ingredients.

@dya80dya It is. And I tend to cook a lot outside on the grill too. Just seems better for the season.

Soup is important in Chinese cuisine. I cook soup quite often. Some soups like vegetable soups requires less time. For some soups, it may take at least 2-3 hours.
