post-Thanksgiving weekend

I survived the holiday! And the work week leading up to the holiday, but wow did it take a bit out of me. I can tell that I'm getting older. I felt less organized this year than last year, but I overheard some of the teens saying that this year felt smooth and low-stress. I'm happy for that, even if it felt stressful on my end! I didn't make the fruit turkey this year, as my teen wanted to do it this time. It turned out fine, but I missed making it and will probably insist on doing it next year. They also made a very nice turkey-themed charcuterie board for everyone to snack on while waiting for the food to finish. I went back to work yesterday and then hit the Black Friday sales after my shift. I wanted to get the more expensive items out of the way while they were on sale, plus a pair of pajamas for everyone while they were still in the stores. I've been saving up money in my PayPal account and had over $50 in Amazon gift cards stashed away, and I used those funds to keep the cost down. I was able to get an eReader for one kid, an updated FitBit for another child, and a musical instrument that the youngest child has been wanting for nearly a year. The pajamas, even on sale, added up pretty quickly. I'm probably not going to do any more shopping until Monday. The other half and I have been getting each other "necessary gifts". I know he got me a new knife bag for work as the one I've been using is nearly 18 years old and falling apart. I know he's also purchased a denim apron with leather trim for me, which wasn't needed but definitely coveted! I'm going to enjoy wearing that at work, or at least I will after I unwrap them next month. I know he needs a new pair of work shoes, but probably wants to try them on himself. I'm going to get him a gift card for Beck's Shoes if I can. He likes to wear "lounge pants" around the house, and I grabbed 2 pairs of those while out yesterday while they were 50% off. In the "not necessary, but fun" category, there's a concert that he's interested in seeing in January, so I'm going to buy him tickets to see it. Someone in the house made the turkey carcass into stock while I was at work yesterday, so that's a task I no longer have to worry about today. We've finished off most of the mashed potatoes and the green bean casserole, but there is still turkey and stuffing. and gravy left, as well as half of the Thanksgiving slaw and a dozen dinner rolls. I'm not sure what I'm doing with the leftovers for dinner tonight, because I'm not really in the mood for "leftover Thanksgiving casserole" or soup. I'm sure soup is on the horizon tomorrow, possibly with stuffing dumplings, but I'll have to come up with something different tonight. Maybe turkey enchiladas? What's going on in your neck of the woods today? Do you have lots of leftovers to use up? Picture of the tur-cuterie board for the algorithm tax.

Could you do "teamwork"? "I didn't make the fruit turkey this year, as my teen wanted to do it this time. It turned out fine, but I missed making it and will probably insist on doing it next year."

We could, and we did a little with this one. The same teen made the charcuterie board and the sweet potato casserole too.

@TheHorse This is the teen who decided to homeschool this year and is taking a mail-order cooking course, so I think they're really excited about their new cooking and plating skills this year.

Our leftovers are going fast. We love turkey and sides. I may have a turkey sandwich for dinner tonight. We'll watch the Cleveland Browns play today and I may finish up the Christmas cards for mailing. Have a good week. The turkey board is really cute.

Oh, are the Browns playing today? I should put on my jersey! Truthfully, I don't keep up much with sports at all, but somehow I have 2 Cleveland Browns jerseys, a white one and a brown one.

@spiderdust Yes, they played and lost. It was upsetting because the ball was thrown right to the receivers; and they kept dropping the ball! How did someone in CA end up with Browns jerseys??? lol

Cute cheese board. We did not fix turkey and we finally finished the quiche, and the pie, and the cranberry sauce. A problem with me being on break is we have meals. I think I have some bean soup to eat, and I will put it with some slaw and some rolls perhaps. I do not want to go back to work, we have snow.

I still have some slaw to finish up too. Do you also make Thanksgiving slaw with the maple-cider vinegar dressing and dried cranberries?

The picture is absolutely adorable! I had some leftovers today, and they were very good. Today, which felt like a Sunday, was just about organizing, and making sure I had finished my shopping. I didn’t go to any Black Friday sales in actual stores Friday, but I took advantage of the Black Friday Amazon deals online yesterday. The prices were really good, and thankfully, I had plenty of Amazon gift cards. It sounds like you did an excellent job of finding great deals yourself!

My squirreled away gift cards helped a lot. I just remembered that I can cash in ny change jar for Amazon gift cards too, so I can use that to fill in some gaps later.

The only leftovers I have are part of a veggie platter and pumpkin pie. I might have a little bit of pie tonight for a snack.

I still have a good bit of pumpkin pie left as they went for the other pies first. I might make myself a pumpkin pie sundae with rum raisin ice cream later.

@spiderdust That sounds tasty..I saw on the Food Network Ree Drummond made a pecan pie shake, but I think I saw that episode last year as well. I remember the shake.

@snowy22315 I can see pecan pie working in a shake! I've seen pumpkin pie shakes before.

@sallypup Oh, I that spread sounds good! The pies do too. I didn't have any acorn squash this year, although I would have liked some.

No leftovers this way..we had little but made the most of it. Got the tiny tree up and will put a few lights on at first of month. That is about it for now here. Glad you all are doing okay.

The tur-cuterie board is awesome. We have some turkey left over. The missus is baking it into a turkey/noodle casserole for dinner tonight. Other than some desserts, that will be the last of our leftovers.

I'm definitely freezing some of the stock, but I'm sure we're finishing off the turkey meat very soon.

I think the photo took a little while to load. I've been getting gift cards through Rewarded Play and Mistplay, as well as the occasional Swagbucks and iBotta rebates.

Turkey enchiladas sound good. We went to Mike's Mom so we don't have any left overs. There were 13 of us so I don't think that she had much left over.
