Today would have been my parents' 49th wedding anniversary

I guess it still is even though he passed away almost 3 months ago. I don't know the whole story behind their wedding but I do know that my mom didn't wear a white wedding dress. They were married in a Catholic church by the monsignor. I know that my mother had 2 very premature babies before I was born and if I do the math it seems that she was pregnant when they got married. I suspect that my grandma made a hefty donation to the church for the monsignor to perform the wedding. Hey whatever. No judgement. They were in their early 20s. Married life wasn't easy for them during those first 20 years and they filed for divorce a couple of times but never went through with it. Things calmed down after my sister and I were out of the house and in college/living on our own. They both retired several years ago and were living their best lives. They traveled, spent a lot of time with their grandchildren, went to the beach all of the time, went to concerts, and generally just enjoyed their life. They were so happy. I know today is excruciating for my mother now that he is gone. She spent the day with my sister's family and her best friends. I hope she is able to sleep tonight.

It is good you have empathy for her, even though you hear little from her. It would be sad.

What a good picture, the happiness just out there for everyone to share with them. I am sure it is still very hard, not just for your mom, but for you and your sister, and the grands as well. Your Dad wasn't old. I know you all surely thought you would have a lot more years together, and I am sure sorry that you didn't. Some things just don't seem fair. A good man who loved his family, he was obviously loved and is much missed.

That's a terrific picture and a great story. It must be very hard on you and your mom; but at least she has family around. When my hubby goes, I have no one.
