Bread toast...what...do we need to cook that much?

I was a youngster when I was in hostel. So I could eat without fuss anything. Hunger at that growing age is common I think.
So yeah...when hungry, we often got bread and butter, and without making any toast, applied butter and gobbled.
In fact, the nuns gave us bread and dal (lentil soup) with some butter, and milk and bread and egg...that was really really sumptuous breakfast.
But as grown up I find most traditional folks toast that bread.
I always wondered why. That blessed thing called bread slice is cooked when it is baked, right? You don't toast cakes...so why toast bread...
So what is the answer...why do we toast bread....

Toasted bread become more digestible. Toasting breaks down the complex carbohydrate starch as the bread's water level decreases, making it easier to digest.
Add to this that toasted bread is warm and it's easier to spread the butter on it... NOW you know.

I will always toast it. I like it that way and it has become a habit. When it's warm and crispy, it's yummy and also butter spreads smoothly over a warm bread.

I love the texture of toast, but sometimes I just want bread to gobble.
It sounds divine that lentil that the nuns gave you

Good question. It's just another way to eat eat bread. But bread not toasted with butter is very good. I ate not toasted bread and butter as a kid with strawberry jam. And then toasted my bread in a pan too. No toaster. LOL

When you toast a bread with butter it gives out a lovely aroma and the taste increases.

Toasting bread changes the texture and taste. I like mine both toasted and not. It depends on my mood. I love lentil soup.

"Avoid all processed food." says the doctor. So, avoid bread as much as you can since it is processed food.
