When Life Hands You Lemons - Make Lemonade

Or, when your veins don't cooperate, improvise. I called in the medication call a little late, but it still arrived on time. However, it's the only thing that went right at the hospital this morning. My veins didn't cooperate. I jokingly said the cold put them in hiding. The nurse agreed with me. She said the cold weather can make the veins go deeper. There was also a problem with the one site they got to work. It stopped working and it felt like I had a very tight band around my arm. They quickly located a new site. Well, as quickly as they could with my uncooperative veins. They also needed to draw labs. So, I had three pokes, well four as the first poke didn't work at all. Now, add to that the fact I'm on a blood thinner and wore a white sweater. My appointment was for 8:30. I didn't get done until 10. I messaged my friend that I wouldn't be at Bible study this morning. I would have been half an hour late. That doesn't work for me. So, I came home via Walgreens. I needed to take care of a medication situation with the pharmacy. I don't need it until next month. When I got home and looked at my sweater, I got the hydrogen peroxide out of the medicine cabinet and got the blood out of my sweater. It's in the wash basket. So, a change of shirts and I'm ready to get on with the rest of my day. Sometimes you just need to improvise. It keeps life interesting. So, I'm home, no bananas. But I do have Christmas cards from Walgreens and stamps. So, I'll have those in the mail in a couple of days. Have your plans caused changes in your day lately? Thanks for reading. The image belongs to me.

They always have troubles finding my husband's veins and it is true that with the cold the situation worsens.

@LadyDuck It's the same with me too. Though they don't always have such a difficult time with getting the poke. This was the worst.

When they have trouble finding one of my veins they will sometimes poke the big veins on the top of my hand. Works great. Sorry you had such a hassle. Have a great evening.

I told them not to poke my hands. They did that once and it hurt so bad I was crying. It's not an option no matter how good the veins look there. I have tiny crooked veins and it's hard to get a decent poke that works the first time.

@just4him I had to stop giving blood because they couldn't find my veins. One time the woman left the needle sticking out of my arm to go get help; and another time they nicked a nerve and my arm was numb and tingly for a week.

We are sisters of the vein, Valerie. They have a terrible time trying to get my veins. I tell them every time to forget the arms because they have too much scar tissue; go for my hands with a butterfly needle. Eventually, they all end up having to do that. I hope you aren’t feeling any worse for wear after your difficult morning.

And the hand is where I can't have them poke me. The pain of doing so is terrible. I'm glad they can use your hands. No, the rest of the day was good.

Sorry for the hectic morning with all of that. They always have trouble drawing my blood...so I get how frustrating that can be. That's good to improvise though

I'm fine. It was a normal hospital appointment for medication. It just took longer than I expected. Thank you.

Thank you. It doesn't do any good to be negative.
