While there’s good news for you country music haters — there’s no more country in this countdown — I feel that I do have to apologize. These final two songs in the monthlong look at my favorites with “gonna” in the title are (a) oldies and (b) earworms. More like brain glue. But I love both of them, so it’s not like they’re bad things to have on repeat in your mind. Here’s today’s “gonna” song. #2: I’m Gonna Make You Mine - Lou Christie The guy who wrote this, Tony Romeo, was good at catchy pop tunes. His other compositions included “Indian Lake” and “I Think I Love You.” Lou Christie (who’s 80 now) had a string of hits in the 60s, the best-remembered being “Lightnin’ Strikes,” Rhapsody in the Rain,” and this one. And, even in 1969, it was obvious that he wanted to be on this countdown. The B-side of this single was called “I’m Gonna Get Married.” For you trivia buffs, the backing vocalists are Linda Scott and Ellie Greenwich…names that sadly probably mean nothing now, but were big names in the 60s. Linda had the million-selling hit “I’ve Told Every Little Star,” and Ellie wrote a number of 60s classics including “Da Do Ron Ron” and “Chapel of Love.” A magical tune from a magical era in music.
