I have heard of suicidal deaths in my hometown over the years but they were few and far between. I just finished reading an online local newsletter that changed all that.
"...Confirmed through family members, school district emails and others in the school community include one student at Boise High, one at Hillside Junior High, and two at North Junior High", I read in Newsbreak just now. The local coroner's office confirms eight juvenile suicides since August.
This includes the more rural areas nearby of Mountain Home and Horseshoe Bend.
Suicide is an awful thing when it's an adult but when it's a young person it leaves a person with a sick and pathetic feeling. This seems like such a large number. I am left with no words to express how awful I feel. Young people with so much to look forward to in their lives. I know that this time of year is hard for some people who are wrestling with mental issues but this is horrible to think about.
One risk factor, mental health experts are saying, is exposure to other suicides. It isn't always caused by depression and is sometimes compulsive, a way to relieve severe anxiety.

I do think the pandemic plays a role in all this too. Many were isolated and although it helped with keeping people from spreading illness, it didn't help socially, mentally, emotionally, etc. Imagine it for kids who are still developing (heck, even many adults had/have issues). Life and stress is hard - but it's truly sad that a very young one sees ending their life as the solution.

@celticeagle People appear to be disconnecting from each other more. If you're not connected emotionally with somebody it would be easier to slip away.
