Hopefully you’re enjoying the warmth of Jimmy Buffett music even as it gets colder. Here’s another tropical goodie from the late Mayor of Margaritaville.
Havaña Daydreamin’
I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again: Buffett’s ballads and midtempo songs blow the cheeseburger/margarita/somewhere songs out of the water. And they’re much more “party” oriented in a lot of cases!
Here we have a guy who’s smuggling drugs…successfully, but not a fulfilling job (“thinking about all the money he made couldn’t help to ease his mind”). It’s seedy and shady (“waiting for some mystery man to pay him for his time….sailing on a midnight boat, there were no questions asked”).
In other words, this is Glenn Frey’s “Smuggler’s Blues” about ten years before Frey’s song.
