One of my relatives will not use her debit card, matter of fact when they got it they have kept it locked up. They will only write checks for their orders, bills and in the stores, as well as pay cash in the stores. If they want something from Amazon then they give their son or someone else cash and have them order it for them! Somehow someone got their debit card number, experation date and safety code which was locked up and NEVER used and they lost thousands of dollars That's what they said would happen if they used it. But they write checks that have their info on it, send cash through the mail and feel safe,

Is their bank not going to cover that? My sister’s bank did when that happened with their debit card. I absolutely hate to hear that happened.

@dfollin That is despicable for their bank to do that to them.

Yeah, she finally told me that if and when she ever wants to send me cash, she will do a gift card because it worries me too much.

@2ndchances24 It's not safe. What if the envelope get's ripped open? If the envelope get's lost? If it's a check, you can stop payment. If it's a gift card you can report it as lost and it will be replaced.

It's interesting how people have different comfort levels and strategies when it comes to handling finances. Losing money due to fraudulent activities is always a concern. Have they considered additional security measures like OTP, or do they prefer to stick with their current methods?

It's strange they don't trust using a debit card, but will use credit cards, checks and mail cash. Go figure!

I wonder how someone could have their debit card number and code if it was in a safe place all the time. Sending checks is surely not safer. They should change their bank, in this case all banks I have worked with covered.

Recently it happened to me. I purchased something online and it turned out it was from a scam company. I found out they were that night, it was on a weekend too. The next evening the security and fraud branch from my bank called me and said a transaction just came in for $161 for a pet supply company, which they thought looked suspicious. Therefore they called me. My card was ruled compromised and was blocked ASAP. There are some places that you order from require the security code.

@dfollin - I only order from sites I trust and I avoid sites that do not accept PayPal payments. My credit card company sends a text message to ask to confirm the purchase, at last I can block immediately.

We don't use our debit card that much. We pay cash for almost all of our purchases. If we buy anything from Amazon we get a gift card, put the amount plus a little extra on it and use it. But it has been several years since we last bought anything from them.

That had to be bad experience. But sending cash through the mail. That would really bother me.

Yes, it made me nervous. She told me she had sent it and I went to the mailbox everyday 2 times except for Sunday. Now she has told me because it makes me so nervous she will send me a Visa gift card.

I would never send cash in the mail. We have a debit card but have never used it. Their money wasn't insured by the FDIC? Have a great day.
