The news item attracting the most attention in Australia at the moment is the quashing of the conviction of a woman once dubbed as the nation's worst female serial killer. Kathleen Folbigg had convictions of three counts of murder and one of manslaughter. She was sentenced when she was 36 and has spent 20 years in jail where she says she was subjected to every type of abuse. The four children died as babies or toddlers between 1989 and 1999. New medical and scientific evidence has led to Kathleen being pardoned by the state of New South Wales. Although not mentioned in the current news report, it was previously stated that genetic incompatibilities were in part responsible for the deaths. Can you imagine losing baby after baby, then being wrongfully convicted of their deaths? It’s a wonder she is still standing. The photo is of our two sons. The youngest turns fifty next August.

Poor woman, as she did not suffer enough for losing four children. Life can be horrible for some people. Your two sons were pretty.

Thanks to improved medical techniques, it was found that the children had fatal defects. But, at the time, the courts wouldn't listen to any of the experts.

@JudyEv Shame when you find a narrow minded Judge who does not want to listen to any of the experts. I suppose he is no more alive to be punished.

@LadyDuck I'm not sure who was to blame. I think that she was firstly condemned by a jury.

@JudyEv When is his birthday in August? Congrats on him turning 50 in August. I was born on the 1st of August and my cat on the 15th of August. That is horrible about what happened to her and her babies.

@JudyEv It is so so sad when someone was framed or set up or wrongfully accused of something they did not do and have to serve time in prison and lose all those years for nothing. So you have a birthday to celebrate in August for him. That is something to look forward to.

My brother and his wife lost their second and third babies to SIDS. So glad that no one decided to prosecute.

She has indeed. She will be filing for compensation which could amount to a great deal, not that it changes much in a way.

I'm sure she's not the first nor the last. It's always good to hear of such an outcome though.

She will get a lot of money in compensation but nothing can make up for the injustice.

Yes I saw that Judy..how wrong they were for doing this to her. And what they did to her while she was inside..horror and inhumane.

She must be very strong to have come through it all. I guess when you know you're innocent, that would give you strength.

I don't think there is a husband but there is a woman friend who has fought for her innocence since day one and she has other good friends too.

It is very sad for the innocent accused. If the woman had not been guilty it is injustice done to her

Cases like that always frighten me since it serves as a constant reminder that your life can be altered very quickly through no fault of your own. Glad she was at least exonerated, but what a waste of a life. Great kids, by the way.

That's so true - about your life being altered in an instant. No amount of compensation will really clear the slate.
