Shots fired everywhere, for hours here.

For the record, this is not known as a violent community.
And no, I don't live where any wars are declared. I live in a smallish city, adjacent to a bigger one--what is referred to here as a bedroom community. There are quite a few smaller towns surrounding the bigger city.
Thursday late afternoon until way after midnight, a neighborhood about 1/2 mile from me was bombarded with 3 different shooting incidents. It's estimated that there was dozens of shots fired, but no one killed, although there were some injuries. Then there was another shooting incident a few blocks from the others, a man decided he was going to be a threat to everyone and stood on his porch and discharged his gun repeatedly, thankfully mostly hitting the ground. Yes, he is in custody.
Last night I thought, oh, it will be peaceful. I was so, so wrong.
I fell asleep about 1am. My son hasn't been very good, so he was here sleeping in the extra bedroom. I was sleeping on the couch instead of my bedroom, so I could hear him if he felt worse. I woke up about 3:30am, groggy and trying to decide what woke me up--he was asleep. I heard gunshots, even though they were 1/3-to-1/2 mile up the road. Many, many gunshots. An entire neighborhood was hit by several drive-by shooters. They banged up cars, shot out car windows and there are damaged vehicles everywhere. They shot up some lady's living room, it's riddled with bullet holes. Another lady found bullet holes in her picture window, and the bullets imbedded in the opposite wall.
Would you believe the police/state police/FBI/County sherriff--are ALL here, and no one is talking?? It took them from Thursday night until late Friday night to report to the news agencies about Thursday night's shootings. But last night's--not one single word. They have nothing to report because they have to wait until it's released by law enforcement, who have released nothing at all!
I have friends that live very, very near to this particular area. One of my friends cannot drive her car, as it now is full of bullets and impounded. Rumors abound, I've heard it's gang activity, a fight between 2 gangs, but then I've heard that disputed. Whatever it is, pretty much everyone here is afraid to be out at all after about 4 pm. No one wants to leave their home. On our community page, there is a notice by a resident of one of the shot-up homes, that says--
If shots are fired near you, hit the floor and stay there. Keep your phone charged and keep it in your pocket.
OK, good advice but...that doesn't fix this mess.
One lady has a bullet in her wall--right above her baby's crib.
This has been a quiet community with a good feeling to it, friendly people, nice neighbors...and now this. We are all rather terrified.
I swear I am not making any of this up.

Its getting worse and people can deny it and say its gangs. I live in the land of gangs and there is not many gangs anymore. I also live next door to one of the most violent cities in America and even they were caught off guard with our mass shooting. Its only going to get worse with prices shooting through the roof. I do not mean to be doomsday, but people need to understand this is a huge problem. I am glad you and son are safe.

It’s not the country any of us envisioned passing on to our children, for sure. Thank you so much.

But then again I hear gunshots around me too but
it's nothing but the drunks firing off to make noise
BUT STILL, If I could move I would but I can't.

@MarieCoyle With the way things are going
as long as Biden is in office it's going to get worse.

If you think about it, all of this anger started way, way before Biden took office.
I know we have more police and more law enforcement than ever before now.

Goodness gracious, what is going on with these crazy people? Don't they know it's Christmastime and they can't go shooting up the neighborhood and ruining people's holidays? Geez.

@MarieCoyle That really doesn’t sound like a safe area with all those shootings.

This is basically a bedroom community to Champaign-Urbana, one of several. It's never been like this...but that one area is now! Luckily, the only time I go down that street at all is to go to the post office, which I am avoiding doing for now. There was a drive-by shooting there this afternoon, AGAIN. The shooter drove through, shot at 3 houses, and took off. Luckily, did not hit anyone! Ugh.

Crazy people is right. Everyone was afraid to even move around all week, little kids in hysterics wanting to know where the best ''hiding'' place is, and parents not knowing what to do to keep them safe there. As of right this minute, there have been no other instances--but only one shooter was caught on one incident, and all together in the 3 days there were six shootings, so the shooters are still on the loose. The extra patrol and such are still here.

We are absolutely covered in law enforcement right now. Our city police, county police, Illinois State Police, detectives, FBI...you name it, we have it. They have infiltrated and are stationed all over the place.

Except that this isn't really a city. It's a bedroom community town of about 20,000 people. And it's a family community.
