I know you’re not supposed to use a Q-tip but what are you supposed to use to get the wax out? Why does no one teach you this?! I don’t even want to get all of it out because I know it’s there for a purpose. I just feel like there’s a lot of wax in my ears and no amount of damp cloth can remove it.

A Q-tip is not good, it pushes the wax even more inside your ear.
The doctor told me to use an eyedropper to apply a few drops of baby oil, or mineral oil in the ear. When the wax is softened, to use a rubber-bulb syringe to gently squirt warm water into te ear canal, tilt your head and let the wax come to the surface. Then dry your air canal with a towel. It is a bit annoying but it works.

Well, technically, you aren’t supposed to do anything at all, and let the wax just naturally fall out. However, since some people have an excess of wax, and they really need it removed, I understand looking for help. A doctor gets the wax out of my little niece’s ears. Hers doesn’t come out naturally, so her doctor removes it easily, and safely.
I imagine other Mylotters will have some great tips.
