Christmas Commissions - #1

Hello friends! It's Christmas Eve here in the States (it's only 1:30 in the afternoon, so it doesn't feel very eve-ish, yet), and it's already Christmas Day in the Eastern hemisphere, so Merry Christmas to those who celebrate, and Happy Monday to those who don't.
I have been very busy, pumping out not one, not two, but THREE drawing commissions for Christmas, not unlike the three spirits who bedeviled Mister Scrooge in the famous tale by Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol. What bedeviled me, of course, was the deadline. I'd received all three of these orders just last month and had confidently proclaimed I could definitely have them finished by Christmas.
Here is the first one, a portrait of a young couple, the nephew of the client and his wife. I worked from two photos, a newer one and an older one. I preferred the amount of detail and the facial expressions from the older picture, but I altered the hairstyles to fit the newer picture. I work fairly quickly in pencil, and so even though this was the largest piece (18 in x 24 in), it was done first.

Nice. Have you been doing artistic work like this for others for some time?

Thanks! Yes, I have an art degree and have been doing freelance art and portrait commissions on the side ever since.

@AliCanary hmm, I didn't know that.
I keep in touch with a friend I've known from about 2003, from a non-paying writing site. She wrote some story books for children about dragons.
I'm going to see if I can help her in any way but I don't draw and I think that's what she needs although I don't know what she can afford.
If I don't have the know-how to do what she's asking-she's hoping for something specific, can I have her get in touch with you?

@MarshaMusselman thank you for thinking of me, but I'm afraid I don't have the bandwidth to do a whole book, and it would also probably be prohibitively expensive unless she is working with a publishing house. If she's working on spec with a limited budget, AI might be a good solution. She might also try looking on a work-for-hire site like fiverr for an illustrator.

Thank you! I could, but I think it would be more than you would like to spend, and I also think it would take a long time to get the work back to you. I work full time, so that doesn't leave me a lot of time for artwork. I did three commissions this month, and it was very stressful. I had to cancel out of spending time with my friends and didn't get enough rest. I'm going to have to pace things slower from here on out.

@LindaOHio yes, the artwork and the writing is all "side hustle". I work a regular corporate job to pay the bills, why is why I don't spend as much time on MyLot.

@AliCanary I didn't realize that you worked in addition to doing the artwork. That's a lot!

The couple would have been really pleased with this. I'm off to see the others.
