Flat Surfaces

We have our family Christmas gathering on the 1st due to schedules, so of course we are cleaning up and sprucing up the house. One of my tasks was to clear off the hutch. An abomination with multiple flat surfaces, of which are also an abomination. Flat surfaces. Best defined as "a place to put anything and everything." Our hutch was full of Menard's rebate checks, mail, pens, and anything else imaginable that had no other "rightful" place other than to lay on an available flat surface. Ugh. It is confounding. But I got it all cleaned up and we put in the place of all of the "crap" some Christmassy stuff and I told the wife, "Let's try to keep it this way and scold each other if either one of us tries to put something on that hutch that doesn't belong." It's good now. But we will see how long it lasts.

What's that about nature abhorring a vacuum? Is a flat surface a vacuum? My computer desk has the same issues as your hutch. But your hutch is really cute.

Thanks. We actually bought it years ago at a "go find it" shop, painted it black, changed the hardware...but I think your description of flat surfaces is quite accurate. I just recently cleaned off my computer desk and it was long overdue too. lol

@much2say When you get to the point where you have to go into another room to write something, you know it's time to clean off your desk. lol

Thank you. We'd put more decor on it probably, but the cats like to jump up there and I'd prefer not to have something broken or have a bigger mess to clean up.

You got it cleaned at least . . . sometimes if I'm in pressed for time I will just "clear" it . . . meaning take everything and throw it in a bin (and then stick it in the garage temporarily ). Good luck keeping it that way . . . one thing on it again and you know what will happen .

We joke about that sort of thing all the time. Do we clean or just move stuff to other places? Most of the time I am sure it is the latter. lol

We'd probably have more up on there, but the cats like to jump on it, and we'd have a bigger mess. lol

I've tried the whole "let's try to keep it this way" thing, and it didn't last more than a week! haha

I have to add that I was a bit confused the first time I heard/ saw someone refer to a hutch. Here, a hutch is the little building used to house a rabbit or guinea pig.

@porwest It's more confusing than learning a new language. At least then you know that you don't understand each other. With English you think you understand the other person, but then it turns out that they mean something totally different. I could give you hundreds of examples!

It is often funny to me how our languages are the same but the usage of certain words is different. Like fries vs. chips.

It doesn't matter how many flat surfaces you have, they will all get covered in 'stuff'. Maddening

We also use any flat surface to put stuff. It's just so handy! That's why we have clutter...and I hate clutter. Good luck keeping the hutch clean. Hope you and Dawn have a great New Year's Eve.
