Ringing In the New Year

By now you know the residents of my little apartment – me, Freddie, and Morticia. Now let me tell you a story in a different way. Imagine watching a TV series with a narrator telling you the story.
It was around 10 PM when Mama decided to go to read in bed. The two cats were engaged in their own adventures and it was quiet all around. Mama read for a while and decided to try to go to sleep even though the New Year had not rung in yet.
Around five minutes to midnight the first sounds of fireworks blasts could be heard. As well as the sounds of the embers from the fireworks raining down over everything. Mama suddenly awoke and with a beating heart for a moment of fear realized that she was stepping over the threshold into 2024. She also felt like a deflated balloon because upon her, sat Freddie at around 15 or so pounds and very muscular. He sat there like a sphinx feeling safe from the firework blasts outside.
Mama stretched as best she could and once again fell asleep. After a while Freddie jumped off and everyone settled down to sleep. About two hours later some moron let off such a string of blasts that it immediately awoke Mama once more. Freddie, the sphinx was back in a flash and settled upon her once more. Finally, silence came once more and the apartment residents could sleep till morning light.
The photo is of the cats when they were kittens. They sure have grown.

Most pets are not found of loud noises, especially fireworks. Unfortunately, for those seeking some peace and quiet, celebrations tend to be on the loud side.
