Kazakhstan is a lovely place and I had a ball in the snow. We flew in direct from Abu Dhabi and the fight took 4 hours. Landed when a blistering snowstorm was on at Almaty, the capital. It's a big and modern city with 2 million inhabitants.
I spent a week at the Oi-Qarazi ski resort and it was wonderful to flex your muscles. Plenty of snow with ski lifts to reach the top of the slopes and ski down.
A wonderful eatery and bar; You will love this place and I had a drink of single Malt scotch the Macallan every day. Yes, beer too.
Thankfully no trappings of religion and the people are open. For me, it was visa-free entry and a great way to spend a holiday.
