Rent or not...

Do you prefer to live in a rental house or your own home?
The cost of living has been going up in many countries since covid and the war in Ukraine. The rent prices have been shooting up not forgetting the food prices.
At this rate, it is better for those who own their homes because they won't face the increasing rent prices.
We rent a house here in the city but we have our own home in the rural area. I personally would prefer my own house over rented house.

I want my own home naturally but cannot get one.
Rents here are too expensive like your place too.

@mildredtabitha Yes and here also they have the yearly property tax..if you own a house, you must pay the big tax every year.

@RebeccasFarm yeah. We call it land rates here. I was thinking of buying a wooden cabin someday but where to put it is the issue. I would need to buy land first.

@mildredtabitha I have. I like the freedom of owning. But the repairs can be very expensive

@wolfgirl569 ohh. I now understand. Both renting and owning have advantages and disadvantages.

It's the same for my country too. I wonder if the cost of living will go down someday. Here, buying a house costs millions.

I own my home in a rural area. My son's live in the city and they say rent spikes are horrible.

Yeah. The prices always go up especially during inflation. It's better to have a tiny house if not a big house.

@mildredtabitha I don't want to go back to our home. I feel so sad as no one is living there anymore. I prefer to rent here in the city.

My parents will go to our rural home after they retire from job here in the city. As for me I will keep renting but I hope to buy a tiny house one day.

@wittynet I'm sorry. I didn't know it was a home with no one living in it. I understand why you don't want to go there. But at least you have a home waiting if ever the rent becomes expensive.

For people who already own their own house, they're better off staying put in their home. But for people looking to buy a home right now, it's not a good time, because interest rates are way too high. Once interest rates start dropping to more reasonable levels, it will open up a great buying period for those looking to own their own home.

@mildredtabitha Homes are overpriced here in the US too, which is keeping many people from being able to afford to buy a home. But it won't always be that way; I tell people to focus on saving money now so that they'll be ready to buy when conditions become more favorable.
I have a goal to buy some land too, but now is not the time, so I am waiting patiently for that right time to get here.

@moffittjc I will be watching out for your mylot update when you finally buy land. I wish you all the best. I will also start saving for it this 2024.
I saw on YouTube some homeless US citizens who live in vans. In my country, many homeless people live in makeshift shelters.

You are right about that. I hope when the interest rates start dropping, I will have cash in hand and ready to purchase a small piece of land for myself. Homes are currently being sold for millions in my country.

Shifting isn't bad especially if you are shifting to a more affordable house or spacious house. We have stayed in a rented house for more than 20 years.

@KityCat That means you shifted to a bigger house at an affordable price. That's nice to know.

@mildredtabitha earlier one we were in the flat was very cramped and uncomfortable , but still stayed there due to covid . Rent was pretty expensive as well . and just 2 rooms . We found a 4 room new house for the same price so we shifted here in 2022 and stayed here since

Your own house in the rural area, your parents live there? How far is it to the city where you live?
My two sons rent and share a house with another male friend.

We currently live in the city.
My parents will go to our rural home after they retire which is outside our current city.
Does that mean your two sons are unmarried? And how old are they?
