My Daughter's Smoking

My daughter tried at Halloween to quit. She tried at Christmas time to quit. Didn't happen although she did cut down for a while. She is healthy enough. No cough but she does get short of breath climbing the stairs. She's out of shape though too. She gets her yearly medical exam and nothing is evident on that.
She has been smoking for 40+ years. She spends about $188 per month on cigarettes.
I tried to help her. Tried to get her to read articles I found on the subject. Tried to get her to use every other(Fum, Norcette, etc.) thing at her disposal before smoking a cigarette. She did sort of half-*ssed do that. But, the bottom line is that she is still smoking and I don't see where she will ever really quit. I can understand. It's like if someone asked me to quit eating chocolate. No, not going to happen. I think even if I knew the stuff could kill me.
I am her payee and about 3/4 of her SSI money per month goes toward her half of rent, utilities, groceries, cat food, and litter. The other about $200 goes toward ciggies.
Pathetic situation.
Picture is from clip art.

Yeah I have been trying to get my mother to quit too. She keeps saying that she wants to vape, but she still smokes even though she vapes.

She obviously enjoys it and doesn't really want to quit. I realise she'll probably whine about just not being able to quit, but lots of other people have done it, some even going 'cold turkey'.

I think the cold turkey is best but I am not her.

I feel the same way. I watched my grandfather die from emphysema. Horrible. That is one reason I so want my daughter to quit. I would hate to see her that way.

It's definitely an expensive habit. She really has to want to quit which she obviously doesn't. That's a real pity.

I agree. Emphazema is horrible and that is where she is headed.

Sorry that your daughter can't quit smoking. Many people in my country go to rehabilitation to quit smoking.

I figure she will want stuff in the spring and want more money so maybe she'll quit then. Fingers are crossed.

I know that you want to help her.
As a former smoker for 25 years, I can tell you that only the smoker can quit.
It has to be their decision, they will do the work for it.
My hubby smokes, he spends $119/week on his, a far cry from what your daughter spends. I hope that can be some comfort to you.
