I Don't Care What Anyone Says

From time to time, you either just don't necessarily feel like all-out cooking or you just want something simple and easy to make. I am not saying that On-Cor Salisbury steaks are healthy or even remarkably good. At the same time, I am saying that Salisbury steaks, at least to me, are delicious. From the gravy to the texture and flavor of the meat, it just does the trick for me. And they aren't terribly expensive either, which helps when you are trying your best to counter the pangs of inflation. For dinner last night I cooked up a batch of Salisbury steaks. But it wasn't a full-on non-cooking day. I cooked up a batch of fried potatoes cooked in a mixture of butter and bacon grease with some green pepper and onion powder, salt and pepper. I also cooked up some mixed vegetables cooked in butter. I drizzled some of the Salisbury steak gravy onto my own potatoes, although my wife had hers plain. I don't care what anyone says. On-Cor Salisbury steaks are just good eats in my opinion.

@porwest I cannot imagine the quality of ingredients in those. I’d rank them in the same league as McDonalds burgers

@NJChicaa That's not an insult, really. McDonald's is a $213 billion company that has been in business for 83 years and is one of the largest fast food chains in the world with 38,000 locations in 100 different countries. More than a few people strongly disagree with your opinion.

Usually, it is. It's basically like a soft, gravied hamburger, but tastes different than a hamburger. It's delicious, but of course that's my opinion.

@lovebuglena I think some do. I can't think of any off the top of my head, but I am almost certain some do and that I have even had it at a place or two in my lifetime.

@porwest You are right that there are times I just want to have something simple to eat and not make anything heavy. I am glad you enjoy your salisbury steak. I love gravy too. That is why when at times I will make chicken in the crockpot for our Sabbath and make sure there is gravy to eat with it and I just love to eat the gravy with bread. I like to make steaks but times to have something different to make for our Sabbath. I have not made them in ages. I am glad you like your Salisbury ones to make with fried potatoes. Do you fry the potatoes with skins on or remove them? I like with the skins these days.

@porwest Sometimes I peel them off and other times I just keep the skins on and like them either way.

@Hannihar Fried I always leave the skins on. But depending on the dish, I will peel them from time to time.

Yep, sometimes quick and easy or just simple is just what the doctor ordered. I fry the potatoes with the skins on.

lol. I have often said, on any of those cooking contest shows, they'd have shown me the door long before I even got to touch a frying pan. lol

I've tasted these. Honestly, they taste like...nothing? My sons tried them one time, we all now call them cereal-steaks. They just taste like fillers, not meat, to us. I do like Salisbury steaks--when I make them myself. The On Cor stuff reminds me of school lunchroom ''mystery meat'' and not in a good way...

They are definitely on their own page, so to speak. But I like them. They are intended to be lighter and fluffier and most of them that I have had definitely match that description. But to me they are quite tasty and good. But of course, not everyone likes them.

My husband seems to like it a bit better than I do. Or.... he did. I'm lucky if I can get him to eat a full meal of anything and I'm giving him tube feeds. Praying it gets better, and he starts to enjoy food again.

A meal like this one might be a bad idea for hubs right now anyway. It's loaded with salt, and after his stroke I am sure he probably shouldn't be eating something like that.

I also enjoy Salisbury steaks now and then. However, I will have to try your brand next time, I got a couple of Banquet Salisbury steak dinners for one, and with the mashed being frozen to the steak and the steak not very favorable it is time to look elsewhere,

The Banquet ones are good too, but On-Cor is just usually cheaper than Banquet is. There's another one I get from Aldi called Bremer and those are good too. I will probably be switching back to Bremer for a bit since On-Cor's price went up and the Bremer brand is about 60 cents cheaper.

If you like something, that's all that really matters. I don't like Wendy's, but I did enjoy their chili even though it's probably made from leftover burger patties. And a McRib is delicious even if it is mystery meat.

I agree. And you are correct about those burger patties at Wendy's. I also think it is a good use of the meat. When I was younger and worked for both Hardees and Jack in the Box, we were supposed to just throw away patties that sat in the warmers too long. It made my head spin.

Your dinner looks good and I wouldn't have guessed that it was On-Cor Salisbury streak. Even though I haven't tried it I probably would since it looks good. I bet that Salisbury steak would pair well with mac & cheese too

They are not super good, but from time to time I do enjoy them and find them to be quite good. I have served these with mac and cheese many times and you are right, it is a good pairing.
