Good afternoon. Yesterday I called a friend. I became frustrated when my friend handed her carer the phone and her carer began speaking for her, without giving my friend the opportunity to speak for herself. People wrongfully make the assumption that just because someone has a disability that they are not capable of speaking, thinking or choosing for themselves. This is just not so. Please presume that people with people with disabilities are competent and capable. People with disabilities are far more competent and capable than a small number of people in our society want to acknowledge or understand. Thank you! You are in my thoughts, my heart and my prayers always. You are loved!
