I live in Atlanta but have been to Australia twice already. The first time I went for the Milennium New Year - to be among the first to see in 2000. I camped out in front of the Opera House with thousands of other people. It was pretty amazing. The second time I went because my friend got married there (she married an Aussie and moved there). Both times I found the people to be extremely friendly and fun loving. I wasn't a big fan of Sydney - too much like any big city in the States. But I loved Melbourne. Lots of great shopping, restaurants, casinos. I can't explain exactly how it was different, but it was more my style. It was also great to see different animals that you only see there - I held a koala bear and saw a lot of kangaroos! I highly encourage you to go there if you can!

Sure! Australian V8 races are amazing: more than 30 cars (Holden Commodore and Ford Falcon) run on circuits that are just perfect, and they really fight.

I'm surprised some Aussies are here describing it for you. I haven't been there, but my dad lived in Geelong for quite a while. I also have some Australian friends. It seems like a great place with a varied environment and culture in a way similar to the United States. From what I know, there's something there for everyone to like. Everyone I know that has either visited there or lived there loves it.
