This is the finished painting of the peacock. The first thing I did with it today was try to cover up the black on his front with ultramarine blue but I don't think I was entirely successful. I used turquoise with a touch of ultramarine blue for his middle wing. Then I used the same two colours but with a bit more ultramarine blue for the top of his tail feathers. Working my way down I changed to black and put in some more feathery bits. When that was dry I used some yellow ochre and some turquoise here and there to denote the background showing through the tail feathers in places. I used a cocktail stick to put in extra fine bits inbetween the feathery tail feathers. I also used the cocktail stick to denote more feathers in the middle wing section. I used ultramarine blue again, and yellow ochre with a touch of black. I added a mix of turquoise and ultramarine blue to the tail feathers, and when that was dry I painted in a few peacock eyes where they could be seen. Then I went and got my dinner. After I'd watched EastEnders, I went back to carry on my painting. I painted the front part inbetween the middle wing and the front in burnt sienna mixed with a little white, and when that was dry added a bit of a lighter shade and then black in subtle stripes. I did a darker mix of burnt sienna and white for just at the bottom of his front. I did his beak in cerulean blue and turquoise, and used a mix of yellow ochre and white for his eye. I then added a few finishing touches and then I called him finished. While I was waiting for parts of him to dry, I also painted a water lilly on a small canvas that I'd painted black first.
