Walmart, You Boobs

Isn't it bad enough that I had to write about the other day losing a quarter for a cart I gave to an old lady at Aldi for Heaven's sake?
I still have not gotten over that, you know.
So, today I went to Walmart for a few things. I didn't need much, but there were a couple of items on my list. So I went. And of course, as you know, I am not only a shopper there, I am a shareholder of the company.
So, I hate ever having to talk bad about them. I have a personal interest in them doing well, of course.
I was in the kitty section only because I had kitty treats on the list and noticed they had Special Kitty Ocean Whitefish & Tuna cuts in gravy on clearance for $1 a can. They were 13 ounce cans so I thought this was a good deal.
I bought two of them.
Only when I got home I realized they actually charged me $1.22 a can. Ugh. Really? Seriously?
Granted. $1.22 a can is still a good price. But now I am down another 44 cents. If it's not bad enough I still can't get over that quarter now I have to deal with a total loss of 69 cents? I feel like I am in financial ruin.
Incidentally, while I was there I did go ahead and check their egg prices. I really want some eggs. But the cheapest was their wrapped two pack of 18 count eggs. 36 for $4.20. That comes out to $1.40 per dozen.
Nope. I am not paying that so I left them on the shelf. Not only am I now down 69 cents I still have no eggs.
To top it all off, 69 is an interesting number, isn't it? I a screwed both ways it looks like and I have no recourse.
Oh well. I am not going back to Walmart to claim my 44 cents. Maybe it comes back to me in future dividends. But what a bunch of boobs.

I like to think of the silver linings. A deal is still a deal if it's not the one you were expecting.

@porwest Yeah, they could've changed the pricing completely and made you spend more. Could've been a case of being mislabled either in their system or on the shelf.

@kaylachan I did check the price label and it matched the cans, so I think someone just forgot to put the clearance price in the system. Or they did it on purpose. Not sure.

I would have bought the eggs at $1.40 per dozen; but that's just me. There have been over 80 million chickens/turkeys destroyed since this Avian flu thing started in 2022. Most of the birds destroyed were egg layers. I don't know if the price on eggs will ever recover. Have a good week.

I always check the invoice after I check out. If there's something wrong, I talk to the cashier immediately.

I hate it when I misread a price or they haven't changed the sale price, it still looks like it is on sale but it just went off sale.

Did you not look at your receipt before leaving the store? Maybe it was a $1/can if you buy a specific number of cans otherwise it's $1.22?
I would be tempted to go back to the store and get my money back. Purely, out of principle. Though not if the store was far from me and I had to take buses to get there.

Nope. It was clearly marked $1.00 per can on clearance. But I did not check my receipt before I left the store on this occasion. Normally I do, but of course the one time I don't, that's when errors happen. It is what it is, I suppose.
If it were more than 44 cents I probably would have gone back. Not that every penny doesn't matter. But I know I can make it up somewhere else.

There have been millions of chickens slaughtered due to Avian flu, in November and December and it's still happening, but I am sure you know that. If you want your eggs, go get some before the price jacks up wildly like last year.
I hadn't heard from my egg-lady bartering friend Tammy for several weeks, she was sort of marooned out in the sticks with all the ice and snow. But she called today and will bring me eggs tomorrow, and I have her cookies ready for the trade. It works for us, and I get great, really fresh huge eggs.
