Day 16 – Supreme Deliverer Genesis 14:17 The king of Sodom went out to meet him at the Valley of Shaveh (that is, the King's Valley), after his return from the defeat of Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him. 18 Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; he was the priest of God Most High (El Elyown, el-yone'). 19 He blessed him and said, “Blessed be Abram of God Most High (El Elyown), possessor of heaven and earth; 20 and blessed be God Most High (El Elyown), who delivered your enemies into your hand.” And he gave him a tithe of all. 21 Now the king of Sodom said to Abram, “Give me the persons, and take the goods for yourself.” 22 But Abram said to the king of Sodom, “I have raised my hand to the LORD (Jehovah), God Most High (El Elyown), the possessor of heaven and earth, 23 that I will take nothing, from a thread to a sandal strap, and I will not take anything that is yours, lest you should say, ‘I made Abram rich’ — 24 except only what the young men have eaten, and the portion of the men who went with me: Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre; let them take their portion.” God’s name: El – God Elyone) – Supreme Jehovah – Self-existent, Eternal God’s Character: Deliverer Wars take place in many places around the world, not only in the most publicized places. You can have a war in your neighborhood, between family members, wherever you find a conflict of interest you can have a war. Four kings went up against five kings in the place where Lot went to dwell. In the course of the battle, Lot and his family were taken hostage. Abram learned what happened and mounted a rescue with his armed servants and succeeded to free Lot and his family and bring them home. When Abram returned from the battle, Melchizedek, king of Salem met him with bread and wine. He was a priest of God Most High (El Elyown). He blessed Abram and recognized he belonged to El Elyown who delivered him from his enemies. Melchizedek also blessed El Elyown. With the blessing, Abram gave him a tithe of all the spoils from the battle. Melchizedek first mentioned here and again in Hebrews, is defined as righteous king, or King of Righteousness being a type of Christ. Salem, from which he belonged means peace. Therefore, he is recognized as the prince of peace, another name of Christ. Abram gave him a tithe of everything from the battle, giving the tithe not only to Melchizedek, but also to God Most High (El Elyown). The king of Sodom also present with Abram only accepted the persons they gained as spoils from the battle, but would not take the goods, but gave them to Abram alone, stating he would not be the one to make Abram rich. You see here another significance of Melchizedek. Not only does he represent Christ by his name and character, prince of peace, but he met him with bread and wine. Before Jesus’ crucifixion, He had a final supper with His disciples, and presented to them the bread and wine, typified as His body and blood for our salvation. God Most High (El Elyown) our Supreme Deliverer, would deliver you from the war against your soul with Jesus’ death on the cross and His resurrection three days later. Melchizedek represented Jesus Christ in every way when he offered Abram and the kings with him bread and wine. Just as the kings who went to war against the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah and their three allies, lost the war, Satan lost the war with Jesus’ death and resurrection. When you accepted Jesus as your Savior and Lord, you caused Satan’s war with you to fail. With his defeat, you give tithes to God in the same way, Abram gave tithes to Melchizedek. The war isn’t over. The battle rages on with every temptation Satan brings against you. You must rise up and let him know Jesus defeated him on the cross. When you do, he will flee from you. Jesus is your Melchizedek, your King of Righteousness, your Prince of Peace. Let Him rule over you and Satan will have no power against you. Let’s pray: Father, thank you for sending Jesus as my deliverer to deliver me from Satan’s schemes against me. Let my prayers of praise and thanksgiving come before You as sweet incense on Your altar and let me know Your peace in the middle of the battle. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Always appreciate your daily Bible discussions. I pray to God often to deliver me from the temptations of this world around me. You're right that the evil one continues to wage war on a daily basis. But I know he has already been defeated, no matter what temptations he tries to throw at me.

I am always surprised how the men of God seem to involve themselves in wars too, killing others as they do so, when the Law of Moses tells them to do no murder. Even David killed Goliath by cutting off his head. War, here on the Earth, seems to be a part of God's plan, for some reason.

It's not considered murder when you're involved in a war. Have a blessed day.

@just4him Samson certainly killed a few outside of war times, but they were considered enemies of his people I guess too. Moses was forgiven for murdering an Egyptian too. I guess that God can even forgive people for murdering others too.
