To Be a Spouse

No, I am not married, but I admire the little things spouses do for each other. Now, sometimes my stepmom will send my dad to the store for a few things they forget the last time they went grocery shopping. He doesn’t mind, but apparently, he did get a little tired of getting one product: boxes of cornbread mix. When I saw this receipt, I laughingly asked him what the deal was. Diana, who usually makes cornbread from scratch, decided to do some cooking for extended family, and to save time she bought a boxed mix. She keeps adding to the list of people to cook for, and to keep from having to continue go back to the store, my dad decided to solve the problem by getting, what, is it 20 boxes? What are some of the little things you do for your spouse that don’t get a lot of attention, but show your love?

This is really cute. Often they just scan one box then press 'x 20' but I guess it depends on the checkout person. I had to think about your question. I hope I do lots of things for him. I'll make him a coffee even when I'm not having one myself. Does that count? Does that count?

@AmbiePam I wonder how I managed to type in 'does that count' twice, twice?

Unfortunately it's the other way around in our house. I did hundreds of things for my hubby when I was mobile; but now he does a lot of things for me. I miss not having him around. Have a good day.

LOL---that's cute. My Mom always used Jiffy mix to make cornbread.

20 boxes is A LOT. I know why I never send my husband shopping for me.

What a sweet thing for your Dad to do. Since Mike retired, he helps me with cooking. We talk and it makes getting the meal together go by faster, and somehow taste better. He always tells me he loves me and to be careful when I leave to run an errand. He brings me coffee in the morning. I always ask him through the day when I am up if I can bring him anything.

excellent share. I am so much indebted to my wife I hardly can imagine what to do to compensate her affection for me. Both of us love each other

I hop in the car and go when he wants to go. Sometimes it is an adventure, sometimes it is the ER, sometimes it is both. He tries to do sneaky things that he thinks I will not notice, and he gets me a coffee as soon as I am home daily.

Awwww your dad is one thoughtful man bless him. I am sure there are a lot of minute things Andre and I do for each other out of consideration and love but when I think about it I cannot enumerate as they have sort of become just force of habit.

My spouse time is all over. We always went shopping together and it one of us was picking something up at the local supermarket we would call each other on the phone and then meet halfway to help carry stuff. We could look at each other and know what the other was thinking. It was a good time I am looking forward to the reunion at some future date,

I cook breakfast, then take it to Dale in his recliner so we can watch Fox news. I haven been waiting on him for a year, so I like being able to do that again. That was funny that your dad decided to stock up with plenty of corn bread mix!

My husband was dependent on me as long as he lived. I had to wake him up everyday with bed tea, remind him to brush his teeth, hurry him for breakfast.

George and I have a routine down to a science. I have things done he's looking for, even before he can ask. This has not changed since the stroke. In fact, it saves a lot of grief.

How smart of him to think to do that! I’m not married, but little things I will do for my girlfriend include things like keeping her vase of flowers fresh at all times, cleaning the kitchen and putting the dishes in the dishwasher after she cooks, taking out the trash regularly, and warming her towel in the dryer while she is taking a shower on a cold morning. Things like that. Oh, and always remembering to put the toilet seat down after I’m done peeing! Lol

Hey, I respect the heck out of any man who puts the seat down. That, my friend, is real chivalry.

Small things matter a lot to show concern to each other and to chip in to fill a void. At the other extreme are those who cannot tolerate each other even after years of living together. They are quick to point out a fault. We help each other to lessen the burden on the other.

@AmbiePam I was married but am not now for pesonal reasons I do not wish to talk about. My ex and I did not love each other and we got married for the wrong reasons. There was not much to choose from when I got married. He was the only one that asked me. He was a cruel person and did not support me at all and was so unkind to me. We did have some good moments but thank heavens we are not married to each other now. Good for your dad in what he did by buying a lot of boxes at once and not having to go back to the store for that one item. He sounds like a good man that would do anything for his wife and the love they share.
