Birthday gifts

We are the fortunate position of having enough money for our needs, as long as we don’t live to 120.
Yesterday, we sent both our sons a substantial monetary gift as they will make good use of it. My father helped us when we were struggling so we know what a difference a cash injection can make.
It’s one son’s birthday in a few weeks. It’s hard to know what to buy him then there is the hassle and cost of postage so we usually pay the money straight into his account.
This year, because we’ve just sent him funds, we told him his birthday present would still be money but a smaller amount, so he could have a few drinks for his birthday. Then Vince said ‘Maybe we’ll keep the money, and drink your health here. Which I thought was pretty funny but maybe you needed to be there.
The photo is of the money I won at bingo on our cruise on the Queen Mary.

They paid out in American money when you won at Bingo?
Also, if you are set financially, and you're feeling so inclined, I would use a little cash infusion in my bank account as well.

@JudyEv It really does make us happy as parents to do nice things for our children.

I can send my elder son on his birthday but not to my younger one as he stays in Copenhagen.

@aninditasen It's very worrying to be sick in a strange country.

@JudyEv No, I have not visited his place. I fear about the climate there. If it doesn't suit me I am fall sick.

Many people prefer money gifts more than other gifts that are not cash.

Money as gift is quite common here, especially for weddings. We give gift checks.

@Ronrybs So many nowadays have lived together for however long and have most things they need. Some invitations even ask nicely for cash rather than gifts. There is usually provision to donate anonymously. That's the tricky part - trying to decide how much to give.

Money is also a good way of gifting but I think it should be accompanied by let's say an item that they would like and it can be kept for remembrance. But that is just my opinion
