Twist on a Holiday

Valentine’s Day has always been a fun day to me. Ever since I was a kid, I have used that day to express my love and appreciation for everyone in my life that is special. I still get a little card and gift for my dad and stepmom, my friends, and of course, my nieces and nephew. I remember for Valentine’s Day, two years in a row, my late grandfather would send flowers to school for my sister and me.
The card in the picture is one for my best friend, Dominique. Her Galentine’s Day present is a “travel lock” (she loves to travel). It attaches to almost any door, hotel or otherwise, and just makes it twice as hard to enter as it normally would. Dominique will consider that a real I love you gift. Whereas my stepmom is getting some seeds for her garden, and that speaks to her heart!
Sure, having a romantic sweetheart is very special, but I want to make sure everyone special knows they are valued.
Do you do anything for a Valentine’s Day? If you are anything like my parents, or my dad and his current wife, you don’t need a commercialized holiday to show you care. I like the fact that so many relationships don’t need February 14th to celebrate a shared bond. But hey, whatever you decide to do, I hope you are feeling some love today as well as February 14th.

George and I would normally have a special meal. This year, I'll just be glad he's here just to exist.

That's very sweet of you, and those sound like nice gifts. Glad you have always liked the holiday. I never really did, especially since something bad happened around that day. My husband and I usually have a date day, and then sometimes give each other a gift.

You're such a thoughtful and special person Amber spreading love all the time and not just today.
I'm sure your friend Dominique will love the card and travel lock. .
My dad always got me a special Valentines card and candy from when I was young into my adult years. He also started doing the same for my daughters.
I have no "special" plans for today but my daughter and I will have a nice dinner and just enjoy spending time with each other.

Valentine's Day reminds me of my aunt. I used to get bullied at school for being single. I cried my heart out to my aunt. She then started gifting me on every Valentine's day. She would gift me roses, and cute teddy bears and would take me on dinner. (just she and I) She made me feel loved. She told me that LOVE can come from anyone Mother, Sibling, Friend, Aunt, and not necessarily only from a man. I was 12 years old when she said that to me.
Since 12 we've started celebrating Valentine's together until she passed away. Normally people would think of their lover on this day but I think of my Aunt. She was the best.

It's nice that Valentine's day has so many positive connotations for you and you do such lovely things for your friends. Here I would say that Valentine's day is exclusively aimed at lovers. So for me it meant teenage years of being the unattractive girl who never got a card!

We don't celebrate Valentine's Day. I'm a romantic; but my husband is not. Besides, he's in the hospital. It's very considerate of you to remember so many on VD. Have a good day.
