I had heard this would work

rooted potted celery plant

I have not had luck with this before, but there is always a first time. I had the remains of a bunch of celery. I had used a lot of the top, and the body was flopsy and tired. I plopped it into a glass of water. It began growing and presented new leaves from the center, but the outside stems grew yucky and slimy, so I stripped them off. Also refreshed the water in the glass. Yesterday I was potting up house plant cuttings. For fun I checked the bottom of my celery. It had little roots growing out of the calloused bottom, and around the edges. I did what any aspiring gardener would do, I potted it. This is how it is looking now. It seems that spring is on the way.

We experimented with growing vegetable remains during the pandemic and did a celery too! So much run to watch, right?

Yes, it is. I had tried rooting celery in a lid, never worked. I like this. I have planted sprouty potatoes before and gotten a small crop.

@GardenGerty Celery in a lid? Yah, the bottom part grew for us too. I've been meaning to plant the sprouty potatoes and sweet potatoes . . . never got around to it.

@GardenGerty It is a shame to throw what we can plant.

How fun. I love to watch things grow and help them to root. So interesting to watch them grow.

Something like this would make me feel so good. My Mum was always growing something from virtually nothing.

I am starting to notice that winter is on its way out since the weather has turned a little bit cooler in the last couple of days.

Nice. I just put the ends of my sweet potato in some water (before I nuked the body). I don't know what will happen but if they sprout, I'll have some free sweet potato vines for my planters come warmer weather.

You can put "tired" wilted celery into a sink full of cold water, but make sure it has been cut from the base first. that way it will soak up the fresh cold water and wake up. I have to do that sometimes if my cut celery wilts from not getting eaten fast enough. When I get celery, sometimes I take too long to take it out of the bag and clean it. So that is when I need to wake it up in the cold water bath. After a couple of hours, it is fresh and as good as new. Then I go on to clean and cut it for snacking on later,
